Geoscience Broadening

Introduction

This course serves as a integrated module to allow different positions involved with sub-surface exploration and development to understand the overall subsurface exploration and development process. This course will jump-start beginners into practical skills that they would need for their job. It will also help them understand and communicate better to different departmental responsibilities. This will be a good training experience.

The course aims at introducing technical G&G specialists to understand some of their peers' disciplines – and the thinking, language (and often jargon) that reflects certain mental attitudes. Mental barriers between disciplines are common, and often people use the same or similar terminology whilst meaning something different. By understanding differences, it makes trainees able to understand their “foreign discipline” peers better. Hence, it is both a gap-filler and equally an enabler of good communication in the modern world of team-based approaches. Young trainees learn to explore the nature of the problem (detective approach), how to find the data key-in useless data haystacks. The attendees will learn to explore the nature of problems, rather than solving them (schoolbook approach), a skill they know and probably excelled, but one that often fails in practical life. The aim is to be able to look at a given project from different angles. The course ends with a chapter in project planning and some petroleum economics. By the end of the course, every attendee will have heard at least of any vital part of the industry

Objectives

    • To be aware of different mindsets of the different disciplines
    • Learn how to overcome mental discipline barriers
    • Obtain complete panorama of the O&G industry
    • Perform several key evaluation techniques (gradient analysis, DCA, Reservoir Cut-off Determination)
    • Plan exploration ventures and the value of information
    • Understand the basics of petroleum economics

Training Methodology

The training methodology is interactive with group exercises and is suitable for all employees involved in functions management. The pace and level of the training workshop is customized to the understanding of the delegates. Ongoing back-up and support is available after the training on request to the supplier, and the training course is also available for in-house presentation as well as for “Competency Transfer”.

Who Should Attend?

This course is designed for Geoscientists, Geologists, and Geophysicists who are the beginning of their career in exploration. This course will provide them with practical hands-on experience that will accelerate their set skills in exploration.
